It's a non-profit organization that has developed a unique food outreach
program. Once a month, using high-volume buying and volunteer labor
to cut costs, they are able to make boxes of food available to the
public at a fraction of the normal cost.
- Where & when did Angel Food get started?
In a single small church just east of Atlanta, GA about 12 years
ago, Angel Food helped 34 families in the first month, handing out
food from the Pastor's back porch. It has now grown to hundreds of
locations in over 30 states. Recently, over 400,000 boxes were distributed
in a single monthly cycle.
- How is Angel Food different from other
food programs or food banks?
First, there are no applications, no income restrictions or other
requirements to be met, etc. People can order one box or many. Second,
this is fresh, name-brand foods, not just another "give-away" program
using commodities or outdated foods. Third, it's not really a food
bank, since all the food is distributed on a single day. And since
people are required to pay something for the food, they retain a sense
of dignity often taken from them by other programs.
- Who can benefit from the program?
Everyone! While it's terrific for those in the most difficult financial
situations, (in fact, we are approved for the Food Stamp program),
it is also designed as a tool for those who want to stretch their
budget in order to be able to give more, or who are trying to save
money to reduce their debt. And we have countless people who are doing
very well financially, but buy several boxes to give to those in need.
It's a great way for the average person to do a little each month
to help others!
- How & when did Larry Hutton Ministries
come to be involved in Angel Food?
We travel and teach in churches all over the country. We had been
praying for a way to reach out with the love of God to folks in our
own area, right here around Tulsa. Then, when we were teaching in
the church pastored by Joe & Linda Wingo, the founders of Angel
Food, they began to tell us about the program. We knew it was the
answer to those prayers, and in October, 2001, we became the first
Host Site west of the Mississippi.
- How many people are currently being helped
in Oklahoma and surrounding states?
We now have over 175 Host Sites all overl
Oklahoma, as well as over 100 Host Sites in other states. In one recent
month alone those sites and their thousands of volunteers unloaded,
packaged and distributed nearly 100,000 boxes of food!
- How can I order the food, or get more information?
Visit our website at www.larryhuttonministries.org

as a list of Host Sites, their addresses, phone numbers, and the days
& times they are available to take your orders. Decide which site
is best for you, and go there to place your order.

program, what should I do?
Just call or visit one of the Host Sites and fill out a volunteer
application.
